a wooden floor?
Certainly. One of the distinctive characteristics of a parquet floor, compared to other flooring types, is that of having many lives. It can, therefore, be trodden on and enjoyed without fuss. And not just because the signs of life and time will make it more attractive, more personal. But because, if you like, it can be regenerated at any time. That is, it can be made good as new again through sanding. And here too the dimensional stability of the product chosen will make the difference.
Traditional products – not stabilised – need to be treated right after installation to eliminate the differences between one plank and another. And then again to take care of the inevitable dimensional deformation. With engineered parquet, stability is provided by the underlying support and the extraordinary resistance to abrasion of the varnished finish and the constant renewability of the oil finish means that you may never have to sand the floor again. Just enjoy its extraordinary character. And if you do decide to have it re-polished, only a few fractions of a millimetre need to be sanded to reveal he natural wood surface below, perfectly flat. It is something that can be repeated over and over again. To guarantee that your parquet will last for more than a hundred years.

You will have to let the newly laid planks stabilise for a few weeks. Then you will have to sand it to even the surface. The floor is brand new, a layer of wood has already be removed. Then you need to apply a finish.

Subsequent sanding, fissures and crack filling. Deformations, accumulated dirt due to stucco deterioration.

PREFINISHED
The term ‘pre-treated parquet’ is often used as a synonym for ‘engineered parquet’. But that is incorrect and can actually be misleading when it’s time to evaluate a product. The adjective ‘pre-treated’ siamply indicates that the final finish on the parquet was industrially applied at the plant, and not manually after installation. In this sense both traditional and stabilised parquet could be considered ‘pre-treated’. This is not, therefore, the only feature that differentiates, superficially at least, one product from the other. What does make the difference is the substance: type of construction, materials, health and environmental considerations, thermal resistance, finish performance, frequency and ease of cleaning and maintenance. It would be a grave error to ignore these fundamental aspects and take only the aesthetics of the final product into consideration. It would be like evaluating a car only on its paint job.
